About the book

In this captivating picture book, readers are introduced to Charlie Crab, a smart, athletic, and good-natured character who is loved by all his friends. While spending a sunny day at the beach, Charlie encounters unexpected challenges when a starfish friend becomes stuck, and a group of bullies arrives to cause trouble for a group of young crabs. Unfazed, Charlie takes action, showing that he is always ready to help those in need and stand up for what is right. These moments are not only enjoyable but also serve as powerful teaching tools for children, gently imparting important values that help shape their character.

About the author

Grandma Grace Baker, a grandmother of four and a seasoned writer, has a natural gift for storytelling. Her experience as a freelance copyeditor and award-winning poet adds depth and rhythm to the story. Having been published in over a dozen anthologies, her poetic voice and ability to engage the reader is delightful.

Several of her award-winning poems include “The Eagle Cried”, “Help me to Remember”, and “My Body Talks”. In 2003, she started writing her own poetic Christmas cards. A couple of her favorites are “The Littlest Star” and “The Gifts of Wishes”.

She has written and/or compiled over half a dozen books, most of which have been just for family use such as:

“Moments to Remember”, a collection of over 100 of my father’s poems

“A Study of the Book of Revelation”, written from my father’s sermons

“The Adventures of Skinny Jack Bones”, a collection of dioramas made by my son

However, “Alphabet Animals” is out in the published world. Each letter of the alphabet pairs a name with an animal friend in a short whimsical poem. Interested in a jellyfish that goes to the prom, or a crocodile rock star, or maybe a racoon who dreams of being in the Olympics?

And coming soon, (hopefully) will be “Charlie Crab in Mystery at the Zoo”. Come along with Charlie as he visits lots of amazing animals, has a few adventures, and solves the mystery that has the zoo animals so excited. What a wonderful way to visit zoo animals without leaving your chair.

Hobbies

I love reading, writing, doing crafts, watching Hallmark movies and visiting with friends.

I am an avid reader of all genres of books with my favorite being historical fiction.

I have been doing all types of crafts my entire life. Lately, my sister and I participate in 2-3 craft shows a year. She makes beautiful diamond art pieces, and I make creative plastic canvas pieces.

I also enjoy a weekly bible study “Prime Timers” senior group at church as well as the fun get-togethers and trips that we have.

THE EAGLE CRIED

Once upon a mountaintop an eagle sat up high,

And sadly surveyed earth below as teardrops filled his eyes.

He saw two towers burn and fall; he heard a thousand screams; He felt the ache of broken hearts and the loss of all their dreams.

He looked a little to the South; Gazed at a long black wall Engraved with multitudinous names where people stand in awe.

And over there upon that hill are rows and rows of white, Where headstones of our heroes stand; majestic in its sight.

He thought, “I just don’t understand man’s cruelty toward man; For the Star of Peace embraces all who reach to take His hand.

Once upon a mountaintop an eagle sat up high,

And reverently he bowed his head while teardrops filled his eyes.

The Gifts of Wishes

The greatest gift that’s ever given

Is not one that comes from the stores.

It’s one that’s sincere and heartfelt

So these wishes are gifts that are yours.

I wish you the comfort of FRIENDSHIP

And STRENGTH when life’s struggles appear.

I wish you HUGS and HAPPINESS

Plus a shower of BLESSINGS and CHEER.

Let SALVATION renew your spirit

As you reach for your HOPES and DREAMS

Abundant with LAUGHTER and LOVE

    Beside RAINBOWS & sparkly MOONBEAMS.

I wish you good HEALTH & good FORTUNE

    A SMILE, an ENCOURAGING WORD.

May COURAGE be yours when needed

And may showers of JOY be conferred.

MY BODY TALKS

Pop, pop, pop go my ankles,

Creak, creak, creak go my knees,

Thump, thump, thump goes my heart beat,

And I pee just a bit when I sneeze!

Chatter, chatter, chatter go my dentures,

Scrape goes the joint in my hip.

Sometimes my shoulder jumps its socket,

And my blood pressure takes frequent dips!

Creep, creep, creep goes my weight gain,

My belly peeks over my waist.

My mind says I can still do stuff,

But my body shuts down in all haste!

Up, up, up go the meds I take,

My memory wanders here and there,

My back goes out more than I do

And I groan when I find a gray hair!

Sag, sag, sag goes my skin tone,

My glasses get stronger each year.

Selective hearing’s fun to mess with

When adjusting the volume faint or clear!

THE LITTLEST STAR

One glorious day, the heavens were filled

With excitement that spread everywhere.

Announcements were heard

That a star would be picked

For a special event without compare.

So, all of the stars were rushing around

Getting polished and cleaning real good.

But the littlest star

Was too small to help much

Though he tried just as hard as he could.

He got so discouraged, he sat right down

All alone weeping tears of despair.

Then gently he felt

A touch on his shoulder

And looked up to see God standing there.

God picked him up, hugging littlest star tight.

Said “You’ll be my messenger tonight,

Your heart is so pure,

Your spirit’s so willing,

For the birth of my Son, you’ll shine so bright.

HELP ME TO REMEMBER

Help me to remember to treat my fellow man

With honesty and dignity and lend a helping hand.

Help me to remember that peace comes from inside

When hand and heart unite as one and humble thoughts abide.

Help me to remember the power of word and deed

To lift a soul out of despair and heal a heart in need.

Help me to remember the Man from Galilee

Who took my sins upon himself and died to set me free.

Help me to remember those who have fought in wars

To bring sweet peace to all the lands and freedom to our shores.

Help me to remember though terrorists may test

They cannot break the spirit that dwells strong within our breast.

Hooray for all the heroes who were so strong and brave

Now liberty and justice flow as proudly our flags wave.
